Unless an estate plan exists that makes avoiding the probate process possible, upon the loss of a loved one it is likely that the decedent’s estate will need to administered in the Probate Court. The Personal Representative, appointed by the court, is responsible for the Estate Administration. The Personal Representative is held to a high standard of responsibility because that person handles money and assets for the decedent, beneficiaries, heirs, and creditors.

  • Collecting estate income
  • If necessary: Prepare estate tax returns and arrange payment of estate tax
  • Distributing property to beneficiaries and heirs
  • Filing Accountings
  • Petitioning the court to close the administration
